Cheek was knighted by King James I on 11 May 1603.

He had the most flattering reception from King James I, who often sent for him to discuss theological matters.

But then, perhaps as a last resort, he delivered a copy to King James I, a move that would ultimately seal his fate.

It was revived during Shakespeare's lifetime, for a performance at court before King James I in 1605.
