In mid April 2009 the Island Star was transferred from Island Cruises to Pullmantur Cruises.

In Europe and the Caribbean, Island Cruises targets the British family market, offering casual "totally relaxed" cruising.

Initially, Island Cruises had planned to operate in Europe during the summer season (Northern Hemisphere), and out of California during the winter.

At the same time the Royal Caribbean announced they would be ending the charter of Island Star to Island Cruises in April 2009.

Island Cruises is also known for its casual cruising.

The vessel's service with Celebrity ended in September 2005, when it was transferred to Island Cruises.
