But Iranian analysts interviewed in America mostly view a military strike as the surest means to cement the regime in power.

"He may not want to put his name on this agreement," said an Iranian analyst here who asked not to be identified.

And he appears torn, Iranian analysts say, between an appreciation for free-enterprise and a commitment to what he calls social justice.

They told the government in no uncertain terms they are still there and not going away," said an Iranian analyst who witnessed the protests.

Iranian analysts say he is also trying to satisfy, and perhaps distract, supporters who have begun to feel disappointed that he has not provided financial relief.

"It is a divided country now," said an Iranian political analyst who would speak only anonymously to avoid retribution.

However, many Iranian analysts believes that the channel is promoting Iran's ousted monarchy purposefully.
