Intel filed a lawsuit today accusing the Broadcom Corporation of "a carefully crafted plan" to build its business in cable and high-speed networking products by violating Intel patents.
"Nearly every aspect of Broadcom's business - cable products, high-speed networking products, even semiconductor package configurations - violates one or more Intel patents," the new complaint states.
Broadcom said that it had not infringed upon any Intel patents.
Mr. Campbell, founder and chief executive of Chips, said the company designed its chips without dissecting Intel's and designed around all Intel patents.
Intel sued Chips on Friday, contending that the smaller company's chip design infringed Intel patents for the 80386 microprocessor.
When it introduced its 386 chip, Chips and Technologies said it was confident that it had not infringed any Intel patents.
The settlement did not include another suit that Intel filed against Broadcom in August asserting that Broadcom violated five Intel patents.
The first demanded the return of documents describing the specifications of its future microprocessors, while the second accused Digital of having violated 14 Intel patents.
Intel countersued, accusing Digital of violating 14 Intel patents.
