Horse Heaven is a ghost town in Jefferson County in the U.S. state of Oregon.

"Horse Heaven" is crammed with similarly colorful characters.

But this is "Horse Heaven," after all, and a heaven of any kind implies a happy ending.

In "Horse Heaven," her novel about the racetrack, she at least retained the poise of a novelist, albeit one whose characters are horses.

Horse Heaven had a post office from 1903 to 1932, before travel to nearby Prosser became more common and practical for conducting business.

In the years since, she's published six books, four of them novels, two of which have appeared here ("Moo" and "Horse Heaven").
