During service, some aircraft were modified with Handley Page leading edge slats on the upper wing.

Handley Page were awarded a contract for one prototype.

In 1909 he commissioned Handley Page to build a prototype.

Handley Page went bankrupt in 1969 and the airfield closed in 1970.

Given that Handley Page supplied components to the nascent aviation industry the latter seems more likely.

However, the order lapsed when Handley Page went into liquidation in 1970.

Handley Page provided three contestants, at that time without a company type letter but bearing the competition numbers 23, 25 and 26.

One of the Handley Pages had to drop out of the formation, but the other seven airplanes went on to the target.

Handley Page received an order for six prototypes in summer 1917.
