It is later revealed in the letter that Eve warned her that she knew and the game was still going on.
"They're not going to be happy to see me," Eve warned him as they crossed the shoveled walk to the front door.
"Don't get started," Eve warned as they rode down to the garage.

"And throw up if you don't slow down," Eve warned.

So Eve takes it upon herself to see the other members of her mother's circle of friends and warn them before it is too late.
