Declaration of the Rights of the Child

November 20 - The Declaration of the Rights of the Child is adopted by the United Nations.

This led to the drafting of the 1959 Declaration of the Rights of the Child which expanded the 1924 declaration and included various new provisions.

Brunei is a signatory to the 1959 Declaration of the Rights of the Child in which Principle 3 states:

The first major international document specifically focusing on children was the 1924 Declaration of the Rights of the Child (1924 Declaration).

In 1923, it agreed, and then lobbied for, the Declaration of the Rights of the Child which was adopted by the League of Nations in the following year.

The UN General Assembly adopted the Convention and opened it for signature on 20 November 1989 (the 30th anniversary of its Declaration of the Rights of the Child).

On 20 November 1959 the United Nations General Assembly adopted a Declaration of the Rights of the Child during the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The Declaration of the Rights of the Child is the name given to a series of related children's rights proclamations drafted by Save the Children founder Eglantyne Jebb in 1923.

The Universal Declaration of the Rights of the Child emphasizes that motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and that children born out of wedlock are allowed the same social protection.

The preamble of the convention, which is not binding, has a statement from the Declaration of the Rights of the Child saying children need "special safeguards and care, including appropriate legal protection, before as well as after birth."

One focus of Article 27 of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child is the establishment and strengthening of international treaties to further aid in child support order enforcement across national and international boundaries.

The United Nations Declaration of the Rights of the Child states that the child, by reason of his physical or mental immaturity, needs specific safeguards and care, including appropriate legal protection, before as well as after birth.

An accomplished writer and humanitarian, Lady Blomfield assisted in founding the Save the Children Fund and was a supporter of the adoption of the Geneva Declaration of the Rights of the Child by the League of Nations.

The Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Rights of the Child have been signed - even though some states have not yet signed - and the Commission has already presented its Strategy on the Rights of the Child on a European level.
