The Citizen Force was the name of the general military reserve force of several British Commonwealth countries.
In order to reflect the change, the Citizen Forces was renamed the "Militia" at this time.
On 12 January 1915 he was appointed "honorary lieutenant, supernumerary list (Active Citizen Force)".
It was raised again in 1921 as a part-time unit of the Citizen Forces based in Victoria.
In 1913 and 1914, the new 23,400-member Citizen Force was called on to suppress several industrial strikes on the Witwatersrand.
After the war the division was demobilised in 1919 before being re-raised in 1921 as part of the Citizen Forces, based in central Victoria.
This bronze medal was awarded to members of the Citizen Force, irrespective of rank, who had completed twelve years' long and efficient service.
