"Chief of the Name and Arms"

As the law has reverted to the pre-1943 situation, anyone can call himself a Chief of the Name.

Ambrose Madden (chief), Chief of the Name, died ca. 1791.

However under Brehon law he was still regarded as the Chief of the Name.

In 2003 the government discontinued the practice of granting courtesy recognition to Chiefs of the Name.

In the 17th century this became modified by the Gaelic-Irish to Chief of the Name.

John Ó Madden, Chief of the Name, died 1677?

Breasal Madden, Chief of the Name, died 1745.

Daniel Madden, Chief of the Name, died 1727.
