Pete first appeared in the Walt Disney-produced 1920s "Alice Comedies" short subject series.

Alice Comedies (live-action girl in animated surroundings)

In 1927, Mintz ordered Disney to stop producing Alice Comedies due to the costs of combining live-action and animation.

Pete had already been established as an antagonist in both the Alice Comedies and the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit series.

Ever since the Alice Comedies of the 1920s, Disney has produced animated shorts.

This set also includes a few select episodes from the Alice Comedies, which were made in the 1920s, long before Mickey Mouse ever came on the scene.

Although seen as cute and funny in their time, the Alice Comedies contain content which might be considered surprising and somewhat harsh today by sensitive viewers.

When he arrived, the Alice Comedies were winding down and a series starring a new character named Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was beginning.

Besides Oswald and Mickey, a similar mouse-character is seen in the Alice Comedies, which featured "Ike the Mouse".

Their plans went nowhere, however, and the men soon rejoined Disney to work on his Alice Comedies and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit films.
