Stratiotes is a genus of submerged aquatic plant commonly known as water soldiers.

Resident species include the water soldier, the sundew, the black tern, the northern pike and, recently, the otter.

The water hosts several remarkable water plants such as potamogetons, water soldier and the rare brittle waternymph (which spread into the channel in 1992).

These areas are part of the The Broads system and are the site of rare water plants such as bladderwort and water soldier as well as dragonfly populations.

White water-lily, Downy Birch, Water Soldier, Woody Nightshade, Flatleaf Bladderwort, Small bur-reed, Tufted Loosestrife, Sneezewort, Branched bur-reed, Cowbane (very poisonous), Six-stamened Waterwort, Yellow Flag, Eupatorium.

Stratiotes aloides is found near the lake outlet.

One species, Stratiotes aloides, is native to Europe and NW Asia.

The rare dragonfly, the Norfolk hawker (Aeshna isosceles), relies on the presence of Stratiotes aloides as a food source for the smaller insects on which it feeds.

It is found wet areas, ponds, ditches and marshes, with dense vegetation and, in studies carried out in England, was found to be associated with Water-soldier (Stratiotes aloides).

An inventory in 1998 also documented Chara globularis, Common waterweed, White Water-lily, Yellow water-lily, Branched Bur-reed, Flowering rush, and Stratiotes aloides.
