Gonsalves was called to the degree of utter barrister at Gray's Inn in London in 1981.

Dr Haynes was also called to the Degree of Utter Barrister by Lincoln's Inn in 1977.

Corbet was called to the bar by 1569 - probably much earlier, although his slowness was apparently notable - since he was recorded as an utter barrister in that year.

When students are called to the bar in jurisdictions which maintain barristers as a separate profession, they are said to be "called to the Degree of an Utter Barrister..." on their certificate of call.
