unconcealedness

Heidegger gave an etymological analysis of aletheia, and drew out an understanding of the term as 'unconcealedness'.

It is a Greek word variously translated as "unclosedness", "unconcealedness", "disclosure" or "truth".

In this context, art fulfils the criteria of bringing the world into unconcealedness to the extent that, as Heidegger writes: "art is truth setting itself to work."

Heidegger's idea of aletheia, or disclosure (Erschlossenheit), was an attempt to make sense of how things in the world appear to human beings as part of an opening in intelligibility, as "unclosedness" or "unconcealedness".

To consider certain art forms "primary," as Mr. Torres does, is to fall victim to selective emphasis of certain art categories, which ignores the diversity of arts, through which we may find the "open space, the unconcealedness of what is."

The most we can do is let ourselves be drawn along and hope that eventually the withdrawal will arrive at a place or a time when the being we seek unfolds in unconcealedness an4 we recognize what we have been looking at all along.

Beauty appears in this lighting and shining in the work of art through which truth as unconcealedness is made manifest: "Beauty is one way in which truth essentially occurs as unconcealedness" (OWA 178).

Both world and earth are set up and set forth in the work of art: "Setting up a world and setting forth the earth, the work is the instigation of the strife in which the unconcealedness of beings, or truth, is won" (OWA 177).
