ulcerative stomatitis

Chronic ulcerative stomatitis is a condition that causes oral erosions and ulceration (mouth ulcers).

The most common adverse effects include: ulcerative stomatitis, low white blood cell count and thus predisposition to infection, nausea, abdominal pain, fatigue, fever, dizziness, acute pneumonitis and rarely pulmonary fibrosis.

Dermatological causes include chronic ulcerative stomatitis, dermatitis herpetiformis, epidermolysis bullosa, erythema multiforme (Stevens-Johnson syndrome), Angina bullosa haemorrhagica, lichen planus, linear IgA disease, pemphigoid and pemphigus vulgaris.

Hexetidine is the medicinal ingredient in Sterisol, which is labelled for the symptomatic treatment of streptococcal pharyngitis ('strep throat'), tonsillitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, gingivitis, ulcerative stomatitis, oral thrush and Vincent's angina; postoperative hygiene following tonsillectomy, throat or oral surgery.
