Tingible body macrophages contain condensed chromatin fragments.

Tingible body macrophages (TBMs) - large phagocytic cells in the germinal centers of secondary lymph nodes - express CD68 protein.

In healthy conditions, apoptotic lymphocytes are removed in germinal centres by specialized phagocytes, the tingible body macrophages (TBM), which is why no free apoptotic and potential autoantigenic material can be seen.

TNF α+; cells were also seen in Crohn's granulomas and in the germinal centres of lymphoid follicles: the second were large CD3- cells and were presumably tingible body macrophages.

Most of the monocytes and tingible body macrophages (TBMs), which are found in the germinal centres of lymph nodes, even show a definitely different morphology; they are smaller or scarce and die earlier.

Conversely, CD68 + L1 -macrophages abounded in the dome area (Fig 2B and Table IV), and such large cells were also frequently seen in the germinal centres where they apparently represented tingible body macrophages.
