sunglint

When the Sun is at the right angle, sunglint makes the oil visible.

She glanced over her shoulder at the distant tower and saw sunglint on lenses.

Farther off, to her left, she saw sunglint on jagged ridges and icy pinnacles.

Stripes of sunlight (sunglint) reflect off the ocean in the same place on the left side of every swath.

Sometimes the sunglint region of satellite images reveals interesting ocean or atmospheric features that the sensor does not typically record.

These water patterns are outlined by sunglint (light reflecting off of the water surface back towards the camera on board the International Space Station).

But Quantrill saw a sunglint from water between cedars, where the ravine widened some distance away, and took the cycle along the ridge for at least one moment too many.

The sunglint patterns are due to wind and currents, which roughen the water surface and enhance reflection, and surfactants that decrease the surface tension and roughness, resulting in regions of dark, smooth water.
