Occasionally a strong Siberian High can bring unusually cold weather into the tropics as far southeast as the Philippines.

The Siberian High is responsible both for severe winter cold and attendant dry conditions with little snow and few or no glaciers across Siberia, Mongolia and China.

The weather on the western side of Sakhalin tends to be drier and more settled than on the eastern side, since the winds from the combined force of the Siberian High and Aleutian Low run almost parallel to the coast with very little travel over water.
