semilunar ganglion

(1) Numerous small vessels supply the semilunar ganglion and the dura mater in this situation.

It enters the skull through the foramen ovale, and supplies the semilunar ganglion and dura mater.

Farther forward it is separated from the semilunar ganglion by a thin plate of bone, which forms the floor of the fossa for the ganglion and the roof of the horizontal portion of the canal.

The middle meningeal nerve (meningeal or dural branch) is given off from the maxillary nerve (CN V) directly after its origin from the semilunar ganglion, before CN V enters the foramen rotundum.
