Many species (ide, common rudd) will eat small fish, however, when reaching a certain size.

Locally, the name "rudd" without any further qualifiers is also used for particular species, particularly the common rudd (S. erythrophthalmus).

Seversky Donets hosts 44 species of fish, predominantly small fishes such as European perch, rutilus and common rudd.

To encourage bitterns to breed, the reed beds have been improved to make them wetter, and the lagoon has been stocked with the Common Rudd.

Recently, even European chub (Squalius cephalus) and common rudd (Scardinius erythropthalmus), species whose emergence could be attributed to climate change, have been discovered.

It is stocked with perch, trout (rainbow, brown, brook), carp, European chub, common rudd, common roach, pumpkinseed, wels catfish, Danube Bleak and various members of Carassius.

These problems were addressed by managing water levels and excavating some of the reed bed to create open, reed-fringed pools, and stocking the lagoon with the Common Rudd; breeding recommenced in 2004.

Fish that inhabit the canal include European eel, European carp, zander, carp bream, common roach and common rudd, as well as the less common pike and rainbow trout.

The common rudd Scardinius erythropthalmus is a bentho-pelagic freshwater fish, widely spread in Europe and middle Asia, around the basins of the North, Baltic, Black, Caspian and Aral seas.

Controlled fishing is allowed in the lake, with eel being the most common (and providing a popular local specialty, smoked eel), along with small pike, zander, carp, tench, common rudd, trout, and a few others.

Fish species found in Ringsjön are European perch, carp bream, moderlieschen, northern pike, zander, common carp, burbot, common roach, rainbow trout, crucian carp, common rudd, common whitefish, tench, eel, and brown trout.
