Redbook Research releases its weekly retail sales index.

The Alex. Brown Retail Sales Index, a weighted average of the monthly same-store sales of 16 retailers, inched ahead 3 percent in November.

The market skipped past the day's last obstacle when the Johnson Redbook retail sales index showed a gain of eight-tenths of a percent in August from July.

The Salomon Brothers retail sales index, which tracks the sales of 15 leading retail chains, climbed 4.3 percent in July from a 3.8 percent increase in June.

Redbook retail sales index showed retail sales up just seven-tenths of a percent for the week ended last Saturday, slightly above the six-tenths of a percent the previous week.

The Salomon Brothers Retail Sales Index, which tracks a weighted average of the sales of 13 retailers, went up 4.2 percent in August, after climbing 6.4 percent in July.

A Scottish government spokesman said its own Retail Sales Index was a "broader and more comprehensive" measure of retail sales, which also captured levels of internet sales activity in Scotland.

Index Up 7.4% The Alex. Brown retail sales index, which tracks the comparable-store sales of 16 chains each month, increased by 7.4 percent in April, compared with a 1.3 percent gain in March.

He said: "The Retail Sales Index records real turnover from approximately 700 companies across Scotland and shows that the volume of retail sales in Scotland grew by 0.5% over the year to the third quarter of 2011."

The Salomon Brothers Retail Sales Index, a weighted average of the monthly comparable-store sales of 22 major retailers, rose just 2.9 percent in November, compared with a 4.7 percent increase in October and a 3.8 increase in November 1992.
