Extensive tumor involvement of renal sinus soft tissue.

No involvement of renal sinus vessels.

The hilar fat is contiguous with a fat-filled cavity called the renal sinus.

Tumor involvement of the blood vessels of the renal sinus and/or outside the renal parenchyma.

Blood vessels within the nephrectomy specimen outside the renal parenchyma, including those of the renal sinus, contain tumor.

The renal sinus collectively contains the renal pelvis and calyces and separates these structures from the renal medullary tissue.

The renal sinus is a cavity within the kidney which is occupied by the renal pelvis, renal calyces, blood vessels, nerves and fat.

Tumor grossly extends into the renal vein or its segmental (muscle containing) branches, or tumor invades perirenal and/or renal sinus fat but not beyond Gerota fascia.

There is regional extension of the tumor (i.e., penetration of the renal sinus capsule, or extensive invasion of the soft tissue of the renal sinus, as discussed below).
