The renal hilum (Latin hilum renale) or renal pedicle of the kidney is the recessed central fissure.

The concave surface, the renal hilum, is the point at which the renal artery enters the organ, and the renal vein and ureter leave.

This is a common site for the impaction of kidney stones (the others being the ureterovesical valve, where the ureter meets the bladder, and the pelvouteric junction, where the renal pelvis meets the ureter in the renal hilum).
