During the journey he covered 1300km with no mishaps except one puncture and a leaking radiator header tank.

All further DSC class locomotives equipped with the refuges had their engine hoods shortened by 500mm, necessitating the relocation of the radiator header tanks to their present 'east-west' alignment.
