primary ovarian failure

If a girl never begins menstruation, it is called primary ovarian failure.

It should not be used in women whose ovaries no longer make eggs properly (primary ovarian failure).

This medication is not effective in women with primary ovarian failure (when the ovaries are unable to produce an egg).

This medication may also be used by women who are not able to produce enough estrogen (for example, due to hypogonadism, primary ovarian failure).

Follicle stimulating hormone is used to treat infertility in women who cannot ovulate and do not have primary ovarian failure.

Other terms used for the condition include primary ovarian failure and hypergonadotropic hypogonadism, as well as the misnomer, gonadal dysgenesis.

Follicle stimulating hormone is not effective in women with primary ovarian failure or in men with primary testicular failure.

Estrogen is also used in the therapy of vaginal atrophy, hypoestrogenism (as a result of hypogonadism, castration, or primary ovarian failure), amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, and oligomenorrhea.
