This species resembles Broad Leaved pondweed Potamogeton natans in its habitat and shape of leaves.

The Potamogeton natans community (NVC community A9) is one of the aquatic communities in the British National Vegetation Classification system.

Prostoma jenningsi lives among the vegetation at the edges of the pond, including the plant species Juncus effusus, Elodea canadensis, Myriophyllum spicatum, Phragmites communis, Potamogeton natans and Typha latifolia.

It now contains over 700 plant species from the Massif Cansiglio-Cavallo including Gentiana symphyandra, Geranium argenteum, Menyanthes trifoliata, Potamogeton natans, Rudbeckia laciniata, and rare and medicinal alpine plants.

The damming of streams, digging for marl, and quarrying have produced several large ponds containing, particularly in former marl pits, localised rafts of broad-leaved pondweed Potamogeton natans, beds of bulrush (reedmace) Typha latifolia and water horsetail Equisetum fluviatile.
