Spring Pheasant's Eye (Adonis vernalis L.)

These bugs feed on plant juices, particularly milkweed (Vincetoxicum hirundinaria), Spring pheasant's eye (Adonis vernalis) and sometimes also on dandelions.

Adonis vernalis, known variously as pheasant's eye, spring pheasant's eye, yellow pheasant's eye and false hellebore, is a perennial flowering plant found in dry meadows and steppes in Eurasia.

Known as Adonis' flowers, according to legend, they spring from his blood, spilled as he lay dying beneath the trees at Afqa, and return each year in remembrance.

In UK, Adonis annua is endangered and listed as a priority species under the UK Biodiversity Action Plan.
