Phalacrocorax capensis (Cape Cormorant)

St Croix also holds a locally significant breeding population of Cape Cormorant (Phalacrocorax capensis).

The Cape Cormorant or Cape Shag (Phalacrocorax capensis) is a bird endemic to the southwestern coasts of Africa.

In June and July of 2005 the avian and mammal predators included Bryde's whale Balaenoptera edeni, African penguin Spheniscus demersus, Cape cormorant Phalacrocorax capensis which were predominantly found in the cooler southern part of the region.
