perilymph fistula

Even without immediate complications during surgery, there is always concern of a perilymph fistula forming postoperatively.

Perilymph fistula - a leakage of inner ear fluid from the inner ear.

In particular, stapedotomy procedure greatly reduces the chance of a perilymph fistula (leakage of cochlear fluid).

Perilymph fistula, usually due to a rupture of the round or oval windows and the leakage of perilymph.

This includes specifically a perilymph fistula (PLF), an abnormal connection between the fluid of the inner ear and the air-filled middle ear.

Other conditions can present themselves with Ménière's-like symptoms, such as syphilis, Cogan's syndrome, autoimmune disease of the inner ear, dysautonomia, perilymph fistula, multiple sclerosis, acoustic neuroma, and both hypo- and hyperthyroidism.
