This pentaploid cell then proliferates to form the bacteriome of the embryo (Brown 1965).

It is pentaploid (having five sets of chromosomes), and produces seeds asexually like many other Taraxacum species.

A pentaploid variant of H. mollis is common in Britain; it is sterile but spreads vegetatively.

Dogroses are most commonly pentaploid, i.e. five times the base number of seven chromosomes for the genus Rosa, but may be tetraploid or hexaploid as well.

The triploid cell derived from the polar bodies fuses with one cell from the embryo to become a pentaploid cell (with five copies of each chromosome).

Fragaria x bringhurstii is pentaploid, having 5 pairs of these chromosomes for a total of 35 chromosomes, 7 from the F. vesca parent, and 28 from the F. chiloensis parent.

This was hypothesized to be a pentaploid formed from spores of A. pinnatifidum and apogamous triploid spores of A. x trudellii, but this was not cytologically verified.
