The occipital sinus is the smallest of the cranial sinuses.

In the attached margin of this falx is the occipital sinus, which is sometimes duplicated.

The inferior cerebellar veins are of large size, end in the transverse, superior petrosal, and occipital sinuses.

Occipital sinuses were discovered by Guichard Joseph Duverney.

The confluence of sinuses or torcular herophili is the connecting point of the superior sagittal sinus, straight sinus, and occipital sinus.

Through the condylar canal, the occipital emissary vein connects to the venous system including the suboccipital venous plexus, occipital sinus and sigmoid sinus.

Around the foramen magnum they form an intricate network which opens into the vertebral veins and is connected above with the occipital sinus, the basilar plexus, the condyloid emissary vein, and the rete canalis hypoglossi.

In the occipital bone, the lower division of the cruciate eminence is prominent, and is named the internal occipital crest; it bifurcates near the foramen magnum and gives attachment to the falx cerebelli; in the attached margin of this falx is the occipital sinus, which is sometimes duplicated.
