The narrow-striped mongoose is diurnal and lives in matriarchal family groups that practice cooperative rearing of young.

Galidiines are generally found in forest, but the Grandidier's and Narrow-striped Mongooses live in open habitats.

The narrow-striped mongoose is currently classified as Vulnerable by IUCN primarily because of habitat loss.

The adjacent old Chough aviary area is now home to Crowned lemur and Madagascar Narrow-striped mongoose.

The carnivore house displays all big cats and many rare small predators, such as ring-tailed mongooses and narrow-striped mongooses from Madagascar.

Surrounding the walkthrough area, which would include the bats, were enclosures which would house the lemurs, aye-ayes, narrow-striped mongoose and Malagasy giant rats.

The narrow-striped mongoose creates small nests in trees and brush, and has been known to share trees with Lepilemur species, with which it seemed there was little or no interaction.

From the few studies done, the narrow-striped mongoose is believed to be primarily insectivorous, but has been known to eat bird eggs and a variety of small animals including rodents, birds, snakes, and even small lemur species such as the gray mouse lemur.

Snakes, such as Ithycyphus miniatus (a native colubrid snake) and the Madagascar tree boa, as well as mammalian predators, such as the ring-tailed mongoose, narrow-striped mongoose, fossa, and domestic dogs are also known to prey on the gray mouse lemur.

In the Menabe region of Madagascar, a biodiversity hotspot of great importance, the Trust is working with a cluster of endangered species, including the Malagasy Giant Rat, Flat-tailed Tortoise, Madagascar Big-headed Turtle, Narrow-striped Mongoose and Madagascar Teal.
