Typically the clot is a mural thrombus, meaning it is on the wall of the ventricle.

A thrombus in a large blood vessel will decrease blood flow through that vessel (termed a mural thrombus).

It was only after some months that endothelial denudation was observed with platelet mural thrombus attached to exposed lipid-containing macrophages.

My personal feeling is that anticoagulation (heparin or heparin plus oral anticoagulants) should be used whenever indicated: with arrhythmias, large anterior MIs with the possibility of mural thrombus, or heart failure.
