The site is home to several bird species including the Middle Spotted Woodpecker.

The designated areas are habitats for the middle spotted woodpecker, Tengmalm's owl, black stork and other protected bird species.

Forest areas are rich with woodpeckers, the rarest among them being the white-backed woodpecker and middle spotted woodpecker.

Such rarities include the wildcat, Bechstein's bat, peregrine falcon, black stork, middle spotted woodpecker.

However, Middle Spotted Woodpeckers have been seen in Sweden in appropriate breeding habitats after the extirpation.

The Middle Spotted Woodpecker is 20-22 cm long and has plumage similar to the Great Spotted Woodpecker.

For all the mentioned species, with the exception of green and middle spotted woodpecker, the growing availability of deadwood is likely to be the most important factor explaining this population increase.

Among the most noteworthy species in the Nature Park are the Black Stork, the Common Noctule, a Microbat, and the Middle Spotted Woodpecker, the mascot of the nature parks.

The Middle Spotted Woodpecker lives predominantly on a diet of insects as well as their larvae, which it finds by picking them from branches and twigs rather than hacking them from beneath the bark.

Highly protected bird species here include the Bittern, Marsh Harrier, Crane, Kingfisher and River Warbler as well as the Middle Spotted Woodpecker, Red Kite, Red-backed Shrike.

The park has several big meadows, numerous creeks, and five lakes, and is a habitat for various plant and animal species, such as the Middle Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos medius), an endangered species in Europe.

The more common European Woodpeckers are Great Spotted Woodpecker, Middle Spotted Woodpecker, Grey-headed Woodpecker, European Green Woodpecker and Black Woodpecker.

Immature birds resemble the Middle Spotted Woodpecker (D. medius), the male White-backed Woodpecker, the immature Syrian and White-winged Woodpeckers, and male or immature Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers (Picoides minor, formerly also in Dendrocopos).

The Middle Spotted Woodpecker occurs only in Europe and southwest Asia, from northern Spain and France east to Poland and Ukraine, and south to central Italy (where local), the Balkan Peninsula, Lithuania, Latvia, Turkey, the Caucasus, and Iran.
