longus colli muscle

The Longus colli muscle is a muscle of the human body.

It descends in front of the longus colli muscles.

It presents in front a median longitudinal ridge, separating two lateral depressions for the attachment of the Longus colli muscles.

It arises from the thyrocervical trunk and passes upward, in front of the vertebral artery and longus colli muscle.

The anterior archs anterior surface is convex, and presents at its center the anterior tubercle for the attachment of the longus colli muscles.

The prevertebral muscles are the muscles located between the prevertebral fascia (older definition) and the vertebral column, i.e., the longus capitis and longus colli muscles.

Nunziante Ippolito, a neapolitan physician, indicated the "angle of Nunziante Ippolito" to find vertebral artery, between anterior scalene muscle and Longus colli muscle.

It runs down the neck behind the common carotid artery, and in front of the Longus colli muscle; and crosses in front of the inferior thyroid artery, and recurrent nerve.
