A silverfish (Lepisma saccharina) is a small, wingless insect in the order Thysanura.

This family contains the two most familiar apterygotes, the silverfish (Lepisma saccharina) and the firebrat (Thermobia domestica).

The main species are the common silverfish, Lepisma saccharina, the four-lined silverfish, Ctenolepisma lineata pilifera, and a similar brownish version called the firebrat, or Thermobia domestica, which likes warmer temperatures, he said.
