The spectacled hare-wallaby is found across northern Australia in tropical tussock or spinifex habitats.

The oldest known fossil of Lagorchestes is an 11,000-year-old one of the extant spectacled hare-wallaby.

Threatened species which are found in the park include the Golden-shouldered Parrot, Star Finch, Red Goshawk, Lakeland Downs Mouse and the Spectacled Hare-wallaby.

The lancewoods are home to the Spectacled Hare-wallaby (Lagorchestes conspicillatus), while the Bungle Bungle has some unique plants and an endemic Lerista skink lizard the Lerista bunglebungle.

Fifty mammals are known to occur in the area, including a number not found elsewhere in New Guinea, such as the Spectacled Hare-wallaby, False Water-rat, Bronze Quoll and Chestnut Dunnart.

Other species, such as perentie (Australia's biggest lizard), Barrow Island euro, Spectacled Hare-wallaby, bettong, golden bandicoot, osprey, and the Barrow Island mouse (Pseudomys nanus ferculinus) are also present.
