The Blood Pheasant is the state bird of the Indian state of Sikkim.

Birds include Himalayan Monal, Snowcock and Blood pheasant.

The Blood Pheasant (Ithaginis cruentus) is the only species in genus Ithaginis of the pheasant family.

Raptors such as black eagle, black-winged kite and kestrels; and pheasants such as monals and blood pheasant are also found.

The forests provide habitat to at least 118 species of birds, including Himalayan Monal, Blood pheasant, Red-billed chough, and yellow-billed chough.

Other birds seen often include the Himalayan Snowcock, Chukar Partridge, Himalayan Monal, Kalij Pheasant and Blood Pheasant.

Blood pheasants live in the mountains of Nepal, Sikkim, northern Myanmar, Tibet, and central and south-central China, where they prefer coniferous or mixed forests and scrub areas near the snowline.

It is habitat for the endangered snow leopard, the blue sheep and many species of birds such as Himalayan Monal, Blood Pheasant, Cheer Pheasant and Snow Partridge.

During the day they hunt over large territories for small rodents as well as blue sheep, tahr, the Himalayan mountain goat, the young of yaks and mountain birds such as the snowcock and blood pheasant.

In addition to these species, the zoo is breeding the Himalayan Tahr, Blue Sheep, Himalayan Monal, Grey Peacock Pheasant, Himalayan Salamander, Blood Pheasant and Satyr Tragopan.

These protected areas are habitats for many globally significant plant species such as rhododendrons and orchids and many endangered flagship species such as snow leopard, Asiatic black bear, red panda, Himalayan musk deer, blood pheasant and chestnut-breasted partridge.
