Dehydration or hyperhydration can greatly influence measured hemoglobin levels.

Cytolysis is caused by excessive osmosis, or movement of water, towards the inside of a cell (hyperhydration).

People can drink far more water than necessary while exercising, however, putting them at risk of water intoxication (hyperhydration), which can be fatal.

For reduction of the complications of tumor lysis syndrome, current treatment regimens use a prophase of reduced intensity to cytoreduce patients;[1,2,3] however, this does not obviate the use of hyperhydration and allopurinol or rasburicase (urate oxidase).
