hydropneumothorax

Hippocratic succussion is the internal splashing noise of hydropneumothorax or pyopneumothorax.

Small amounts of fluid may be noted on the chest X-ray (hydropneumothorax); this may be blood (hemopneumothorax).

Hydropneumothorax implies presence of both air and fluid in the pleural space ( i.e. between two layers of pleura.
