heptose

It is a heptose, a monosaccharide with seven carbon atoms.

The outer core is made of hexose residues that are attached to the last heptose residue in the inner core.

The Core oligosaccharide attaches directly to lipid A and normally contains sugars such as heptose and 3-deoxy-D-mannooctulosonic Acid (also known as KDO, keto-deoxyoctulosonate).

Lipopolysaccharide core heptose(I) kinase rfaP is required for the addition of phosphate to O-4 of the first heptose residue of the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) inner core region.
