Glycin can be synthesized by a number of ways.

Other uses of glycin can be found in some procedures of analytical chemistry.

A carboxylation of the second carbon of the glycin unit is concomittantly added.

One method is to react p-aminophenol with chloracetic acid in a solvent and purify glycin.

Other developing agents in use are p-aminophenol, glycin (N-(4-hydroxyphenyl)glycine), pyrogallol and catechol.

Compared to Metol, glycin has a carboxyl group attached to the methyl group of the Metol.

Replacement of alanine with glycin gave a tripeptide with 1/14th of the inhibition activity of Phe-Ala-Pro.
