They paint their bodies with a dye made from Genipa americana, the berry of a species of genip tree.

Most people time their arrival to have lunch at the dockyard, and at the Admiral's Inn, visitiros can sit on the wide patio, under the genip tree, munch the tasty lobster salad ($10) and watch the dinghies moving back and forth among the yachts.

The larvae have been recorded feeding on Guettarda macrosperma, Guettarda scabra, Coffea species (including Coffea arabica), Ilex krugiana, Ilex paraguariensis, Genipa americana, Rondeletia, Gonzalagunia species (including Gonzalagunia spicata) and Cinchona succirubra.
