The stomach is put back into its normal position, deflated and tacked (gastropexy) to the body wall.

In gastropexy, the stomach is tacked to the right side of the abdominal wall, so it cannot shift or twist.

In special cases, other surgeries such as partial fundoplication or gastropexy may be done instead of fundoplication surgery.

Treatment involves stabilization and abdominal surgery to tack the dog's stomach down to prevent recurrence (gastropexy).

A gastropexy attaches the stomach to the diaphragm so that the stomach cannot move through the opening in the diaphragm into the chest.
