The Watercock (Gallicrex cinerea) is a waterbird in the rail and crake family Rallidae.

It may come from Hindu mythology, or it may be a derivation of the Sinhalese word kukkula, which is used for both moorhen and watercock.

A "Watercock" is not a male "Waterhen", but the rail species Gallicrex cinerea, not closely related to the Common Moorhen.
