Festuca glauca, commonly known as blue fescue, is a species of flowering plant in the grass family, Poaceae.

Blue Fescue Blue fescue is an ornamental grass named for the blue hue of its shoots.

The sandy soils have been settled by nutrient-poor grasslands of Elijah Blue Fescue and Grey Hair-grass, the pioneer vegeation of open, sunny, sandy terrain outside littoral regions.

They are also quite diverse, ranging in size from the six-inch mounds of dwarf blue fescue (Festuca ovina glauca) to the giant miscanthus (Miscanthus floridulus), capable of exceeding 12 feet.

The dozen or so varieties of Festuca glauca, the blue fescue, are handsome little plants, up to about 12 inches tall, with fine, misty blue-green foliage that looks like a startled mop of hair standing on end.

He was equally enthusiastic about a bearskin fescue (Festuca glauca Pic Carlit) that looks velvety, but is as sharp as a pin.
