A bezoar in the large intestine is known as a fecalith.

A small fecalith is one cause of both appendicitis and acute diverticulitis.

Rarely, a fecalith will form around a hairball (Trichobezoar), or other hygroscopic or desiccant nucleus.

The occurrence of a fecalith in the appendix seems to be attributed to a right-sided fecal retention reservoir in the colon and a prolonged transit time.
