external pyramidal layer

Lamina pyramidalis externa is layer 3, or the external pyramidal layer of cortex cerebri.

Apical dendrites from pyramidal cells in the external granular layer and more prominently the external pyramidal layer project into the molecular layer.

The second and third layers, or the External Granular layer and External Pyramidal layer respectively, are formed around mouse E13.5 to E16.

His name is lent to the eponymous "line of Kaes", which is a thin band of myelinated fibers located between the external granular layer and the external pyramidal layer of the cerebral cortex.

He described the locus coeruleus, the locus niger in the brain, in 1786, and the band of Vicq d'Azyr, a fiber system between the external granular layer and the external pyramidal layer of the cerebral cortex, as well as the Mamillo-thalamic tract, which bears his name.
