It is part of the suborder Ensifera.

Part of the suborder Ensifera, it's the only family in the superfamily Tettigonioidea.

In evolutionary terms, the split between the Caelifera and the Ensifera is no more recent than the Permo-Triassic boundary (Zeuner 1939).

The suborders Caelifera and Ensifera appear to be monophyletic and Rhaphidophoridae is a sister group of Tettigoniidae.

Like the other members of the suborder Ensifera, Panoploscelis are part of the insect order Orthoptera, which also contains crickets, grasshoppers and locusts.

Gryllacrididae are a family of non-jumping insects in the suborder Ensifera occurring worldwide, known commonly as "leaf-rolling crickets" or "raspy crickets".

The sword-tail crickets are insects of the order Orthoptera, in which they belong to the suborder Ensifera like all true crickets (Gryllidae).

One important fact to take note of is the females in this suborder are larger than males, while males conserve a comparable height across species, which is different from the Ensifera sexual dimorphism where females are comparable and male size decreases.

They are easily confused with the other sub-order of Orthoptera, Ensifera (crickets), but are different in many aspects, such as the number of segments in their antennae and structure of the ovipositor, as well as the location of the tympana and modes of sound production.
