The Date-plum is native to southwest Asia and southeast Europe.

Another nickname of the American Persimmon, 'Date-plum' also refers to a persimmon species found in South Asia, Diospyros lotus.

Since the 19th century, kaki partially replaced date-plum (Diospyros lotus, also known as Caucasian persimmon) in some countries of South Europe and West Asia, because kaki has bigger fruits than date-plum; cultivation in California also began at that time.

Caucasian persimmon fruits are edible and contain lots of sugars, malic acid, and vitamins.

The name Diospyros was originally applied to the Caucasian Persimmon (D. lotus).

There are broad-leaved forests of Girkan type-chestnut-leaved oak, hornbeam, beech, Persian ironwood tree, Girkan boxwood, Caucasian persimmon, medlar and others in the mountainous part of the district.
